Places are now available for the following workshops in traditional and contemporary stained and fused glass techniques. Taster days are run from Studios 61 and 62 at Barleylands Craft Village from 10.00-5.00 pm with a break for lunch. Some course timings vary. Please check individual course details. Refreshments are available throughout the day, but lunch is not usually provided. Participants need to attend a half day Beginners Glass Cutting session before undertaking Traditional Leading, Copper Foiling or Fusing Taster days, or must have previous experience of cutting glass. No previous experience is required to attend taster days in Terrarium Making. Please check for availability.
Places are confirmed on receipt of payment in full.
Students will be provided with all materials and tools and in most cases will be able to walk away with a finished product. Please wear closed toe shoes when attending workshops. Weidman Glass workshops are fun but also offer the opportunity to learn new skills at the participants own pace.
Beginners Glass Cutting
Introductory two and a half hour session covering health and safety, use of tools and plenty of practice at handling and cutting glass safely. Essential for beginners before attending Copper Foiling, Leading or Fusing. This is a great opportunity to refresh skills for those with previous experience. Costs £45.00
Students will create a beautiful lantern terrarium from a kit of parts and have the opportunity to learn the skills of accurate glass cutting and soldering, essential for the creation of three dimensional copper foiled items. Costs £90.00
Jewellery Box Making
Make an intricate miniature hinged jewellery box, using the copper foil method. Some previous experience of cutting glass is required. Costs £90.00
Create a small colourful leaded light panel or suncatcher using traditional techniques. Costs £90.00
Leaded Light Restoration (June each year only)
This is a 2 day course and designed for students who have already completed our leading course or who have previous experience of leaded light work. This course grapples with the specific issues of restoring old lead light panels. You will take home a small panel that you have restored yourself. Lunch is included. This course runs once a year in June. Costs £190.00 for two days.
Create a beautiful suncatcher using the copper foil or Tiffany method. Costs £90.00
Fusing For Beginners
An introduction to the fascinating world of fused glass. Students will create several fused glass items during the course of the day, including a small sun catcher, fridge magnets or coasters and glass jewellery. Items are fired and picked up at a later date. Costs £95.00
Introduction to Lampworking (Glass Bead Making)
This is a three hour course, currently on a one to one or two to one basis. Students will have the opportunity to make their first beads in the flame. Covers health and safety issues. These courses are by arrangement only. Costs £75.00
Practice on the torch making beads. Must have previous experience or had at least one introductory lampworking session. Costs £5.00 per hour plus an additional £5 per session (tools and glass provided) ie three hours costs £20.00. By arrangement with Caroline Weidman.
Regular classes are for those who have attended at least one taster day and wish to develop existing skills by creating their own projects. Caroline has four regular classes covering all disciplines per week. These are held on Tuesday evenings , Thursday afternoons, Friday mornings, and Friday afternoons. All regular classes run in ten week blocks and cost £12 per two and a half hour session. Students provide their own materials, but use of studio tools and facilities is provided.
This is an opportunity for students and experienced glass artists to hire studio space without direct supervision. Costs £3.00 per hour. Hours are Thursday evenings from 6.00 to 8.30pm or by arrangement.
